Moneda Antigua y Vías Romanas en el Noroeste de Hispania

This research aims to understand the process of monetization of the Galician and Asturian economy and the cultural ways in which the phenomenon took place. We have studied in depth numismatic remains found in four of the roads that crossed the northwestern territory of the Iberian Peninsula in Roman times, roads XVII, XVIII, XIX and XX of the Antonine Itinerary.
Since all the coins we found in this territory are imported, we have marked the horizons of major imput of individuals and materials in the area, zones of different paces of monetization and, at the same time, Romanization. It is certain that the areas near military camps, where thousands of soldiers lived in and whose only possible economy was money, soon found and depended on the value of the currency. The new Roman administrative centers had to be focal points of monetization too, but we ignore why no coin mints were opened in these wealthy cities with important mineral traffic and people, as can be the case of Astorga or Braga.
